"Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is enlightenment." ~ Lao Tzu

We provide in-house company Traning in pulp and paper producer's second-largest in the world, based in Kerinci, Riau, recently, a participant who asked. "Sir, what is the basis for determining which in positive thinking and what is in negative thinking?"

Honestly, I was quite surprised to get a question like this. Not because I do not know the answer. However, this was the first time I have to think deeply about the essence of positive thinking and negative thinking. So far, we always believed and believe that positive thinking is the thought that "positive" and "beneficial" for us. While the negative thinking negative thoughts and self harm us. We agrees this is because of this that we learn from a variety of popular public speaker, book self-improvement books, and from a variety of seminars or workshops.

After a pause to think my last answer as I write the above paragraph: "Positive thinking is a useful thoughts while negative thoughts are thoughts of self harm us".

My answer seemed to be true. But I realized that the answer I gave was incomplete. There is encouragement in my heart to deepen my analysis of the answers I give.

At night, while alone in a hotel room, I sat down and thought about the deep questions of participants this afternoon, "What are the basis for determining which in positive thinking and what is in negative thinking?"

As I ponder this question I immediately thought of the many events that I have experienced in my life. I've also been practicing positive thinking. My friends too. I am reminded of an article I wrote titled "Danger Positive Thinking" which had become controversial.

It turned out that positive thinking alone is not enough to be successful. Positive thinking and negative thinking is still influenced by the perception and keterbatassan our own mindset. What we believe to be something positive was not necessarily positive. Could be, we feel or believe these positive thoughts because, based on the assumption or the wrong paradigm, which is still influenced by our belief system, which we believe to be true. So we feel have a positive thinking or positive thinking. And not necessarily what we do is positive thinking.

We must move from negative thinking into positive thinking and finally reach right thinking. Why right thinking? Right thinking is knowing who our true self, what our destiny is the highest, what our life's mission in this world, and aligning himself with the eternal laws that govern the universe. Right thinking also means that we think in terms of the Truth and the basis of all thought processes and other levels.

Right thinking comes from the awareness of the truth or from the actual reality of every situation we face. Right thinking enables us to see things as they are, regardless of the emotions that we be neutral.

Maybe get here you feel confused? Ok, I give you an example. For example there are those who insult us. What do we do? If negative thinking we would be furious. The more our emotions raged the more negative we become. Emotions are triggered by negative thinking is like the gasoline that poured into the flames. We blame the people who have insulted us. Anyway, this person is wrong, period.

We, usually, will try to overcome this by using positive thinking. What do we do? We try to think positive, trying to forgive, try to understand, to reframing, trying to control our emotions, trying to find positive things from this incident.

What about the right thinking? With the right thinking we seek the truth of what we experience. We must go beyond our belief system to be able to use the right thinking. Ask yourself, "What truth is contained in this incident?"

When we get a response from our consciences and our actions based on the answers we get it at that time we have used the right thinking.

Right thinking means that we realize fully that we are not our thoughts. We are moving our minds. We create the reality of our lives. We are responsible for everything that we experience, it is good or bad.

When someone insults us, whether it was true that "we" are insulted? Try to ask ourselves honestly. "Actually, who's been insulted? Is it true I insulted? Which part of me that feels insulted?"

If we use thinking right then we realized that we really do not be insulted. No one can insult us. What actually happens is that we have given meaning to the event, based on assumptions, perceptions, experiences living in the past, belief system, and our values, which resulted in the emergence of negative emotions. Eleanor Roosevelt with a very wise man said, "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

OK, you might say, "Lha, but we're still offended by the insult." If you still insist with this opinion, fine, let me ask you one question to you, "Who is offended or feels insulted? Me? I? I'm the one? Which part of me is offended?"

If we are honest then the actual "hit" is how we feel. The next question is, "Are we the same feelings with us? Are our feelings is ourselves?" Of course not. Feelings, the same as the mind, will always arise and sink, not eternal, and certainly not ourselves. []
